The Brief / Project:

Website for a dedicated premium car storage company Racing Green Car Storage

The Client / Case Study:

James / Racing Green Car Storage

Here's what James had to say:

Dedicated car storage for premium cars isn’t new but Racing Green Car Storage, which opened in July this year, is the UK’s first carbon-balanced car storage facility.

Based discretely on a farm in the Kent countryside, only a few miles from where Target Ink is located in Tunbridge Wells, Racing Green makes sure that every car it stores – including classic cars, collector cars and supercars - is carbon offset.

“This is included as standard and our clients really appreciate it,” says James Mills, co-founder of Racing Green. “In addition to making a difference to the environment, they feel they are doing something positive to safeguard their hobby.”

The company’s state-of-the-art facility, which not only offers perfect conditions for beautiful cars to be stored, also boasts solar panels on its roof, while rainwater from the roof is collected and fed into a natural pond on the farm.

James launched the business alongside Oliver Hagger, former brokerage owner and a keen car collector.

When we speak to James, he is busy polishing one of the latest arrivals. The vehicles are all kept at 55% relative humidity to prevent rust, their batteries are kept charged, tyres have the perfect amount of air in them and, when cleaned and blowed dry gently (until no water droplets remain), the cars are wrapped in soft stretch car covers. During the storage period, the cars are regularly checked against a list of criteria.

Security for these beautiful cars is also of prime importance and James explains the facility ‘is invisible to the outside world’ and the unit’s fire and security is the ‘best of the best’. The human owners of the cars are also well looked after. There is a lounge to relax or work in, while Racing Green organises regular socials for owners to meet each other and share stories.

Some clients pop in regularly – maybe each weekend during warmer months – to take their car for a spin. Others might store them over the winter, while Racing Green has recently taken a car indefinitely for a client who has moved overseas for work.

When James and Oliver decided to launch the business, they wanted a website with a ‘premium look and feel to it’ to match the premium nature of the business.

“I had spoken to a few agencies and then, while watching my son play football one weekend, I got talking to another Dad on the touchline,” says James. “He suggested I talk to his brother, who ran a web agency in Tunbridge Wells. We wanted to work with other local businesses, so the fact that Target Ink was local was a plus point.”

James got in touch with us and arranged to come in and meet Rob.

“We discussed our needs and I was impressed with Target Ink’s portfolio of work and Rob’s obvious experience,” says James. “As part of the process, we saw some initial designs. To be completely honest, they weren’t exactly what we were looking for but the team were very responsive to our feedback. I also invited Rob to visit us and discover more about what Racing Green is about. That increased understanding of our philosophy, plus the fact that the team really listened to our feedback meant the final designs were absolutely spot on.”

When we build a website, our clients always receive a year of maintenance and support as standard for a monthly retainer. Many then continue with our support.

“As a new business, I really appreciate Target Ink being there to hold our hand through this first year and, most probably, beyond,” says James. “We find the analytics really useful and it’s also been easy to tweak various elements. For instance, a few clients were asking us for prices, so we realised this wasn’t obvious enough on the website. It’s great to be able to adapt the website over time.”

He continues: “Tick-It [our maintenance and support package] is really good. There’s a clear pathway and it’s simple to track where an amendment or issue we might have is in the system. We’ve always found the team to be super responsive when anything needs doing.”

James adds that he appreciated how open we are to working alongside other agencies.

“We have been using the services of a separate agency for Google Ad tracking and Target Ink has been really helpful dealing with that agency and adding code to the website for instance,” he explains.

James has launched the business after many years as a motoring journalist, including an editor for the likes of Top Gear, The Sunday Times Driving, Auto Express and Hagerty.

“Because of this, I understand how to create content,” he says. “Rob says all the right things when it comes to content and he understands you have to maintain a regular flow of blogs, for instance. All of this makes the website more visible.”
