As with life generally, if you want the right answer, you first have to ask the right question. If you are vague, confusing or simply not clear, then the chances are the reply you receive won’t be much help.
The same can be said of Internet searches – we’ve all amended our searches when we’ve realised that we haven’t been clear enough. This also applies when asking ChatGPT (and its AI peers) to produce some content. However, while we tend to think of ChatGPT as a resource to write blogs but it can also be a way of giving your own business some guidance.
For instance, if you want to know how best to optimise your website or market your business, you could ask ChatGPT for some guidance and you will typically end up with a document listing some options. Of course, that’s not the whole story – you will probably need some outsourced expertise to deliver these ideas. In addition, you also need to ask the right question in the first place or provide the best ‘prompt’.
A ChatGPT prompt is a starting point or an instruction provided to the ChatGPT language model to guide its response or generate a desired output. It can be a few words, a sentence, or even a paragraph that sets the context or frames the conversation. The prompt serves as input to the model, influencing the way it generates responses. By crafting effective prompts, users can steer the direction of the conversation and elicit more specific or relevant information from the model.
While ChatGPT isn’t a real person, it still needs you to be as straightforward as you can, so it has the best chance of understanding your requirements. If you ask a question and the words which ChatGPT sends you aren’t really what you are looking for, then you can add more keywords.
It is a learning curve and, as if you are meeting a new contact in real life, you will begin to understand ChatGPT a little better and, in turn, ChatGPT will learn from you. It’s important to continue amending your style to get the best results. Simply repeating a prompt – basically shouting at ChatGPT – will get you nowhere. As Albert Einstein is said to have stated: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
In time and with practice and patience, you will create a prompt style that will deliver results for your business. ChatGPT will let you continue the conversation, allowing you to refine your questioning and, as a result, get a better answer in time.
When it comes to marketing you can ask ChatGPT for its input with all your marketing questions from writing blogs, as we’ve written about before, to creating meta descriptions for your web pages, or a follow-up email to new contacts you’ve met at a networking event. It can do something as simple as generating an engaging email subject line to drafting an entire marketing plan.
If you’re looking for digital marketing advice for your business and you want to make sure you’re providing the right prompts, then you can simply Google that and you’ll be given various options. Then, of course, you’ll need to amend that prompt to suit your particular business and location etc.
Of course, some of the ideas will be things you can implement yourself, such as writing blogs. But, there will be ideas which come up where you’ll need specialise advice and guidance from a web agency, such as Target Ink.
If, through asking ChatGPT, you discover what digital marketing you need to action in your business, why not get in touch with our team to help you implement those ideas.
